Sunday morning we slept in and departed camp at 5:15 AM. We hiked through the upper part of South Colony Lakes just as the sun came up and bathed the Crestone group in an orange alpine glow. We were able to enjoy this view for a while but had our eyes set on Kit Carson. Unlike the previous day we were not the first climbers on the trail. Once atop the newly named Challenger Point we angle across the slope along a natural rock vein. We skirted to the south of the summit along a good cairned path. The down climb from Columbia Point and over to Kit Carson was the crux of this days climb.
