Crestone Peak

Sangre de Cristo Range - 14,294 feet - 7th highest

This and its two neighbors, Crestone Needle and Kit Carson Peak, form one of the most impressive mountain sights in Colorado, and they pose a severe challenge to dedicated mountain Climbers.

Crestone is believed to have been the last climbed of all Colorado's Fourteeners. It was the first officially negotiated in 1916 by Albert R. Ellingwood and Eleanor S. Davis. Enthusiasts who set to climb out to climb every one of the Fourteeners generally save Crestone for last, since a climber needs every once of experience he can musterin order to conquer this peak. Today, experts usually climb this and Crestone Needle together, going from one peak tothe other via a steep, spectacular ridge.
